18/11/09: First Cut

Well, I trimmed my stache for the first time since I started growing it. I was going to let it keep going, but the wife was complaining, my coworkers were making remarks about it, and my students kept saying weird stuff. I decided that I had enough and had to give it a trim. Take a look at the before and after. Oh by the way, Im continuing to let the ends (sides?) grow. I want to shape them pointed up so I can pass for a Frenchman. Do French people even do that? I don't know, but it is what I am going for.

Do I look more reasonable?

19/10/09: Day 31 - At Last

Well, Tuttle, no need to be jealous anymore, as this is my last daily update for the month of mustache. However, I might take a picture of my face every day continuously and keep it on my computer, just so that ten years from now I can look at them like a slide show and get incredibly depressed about how far I have fallen. Anyway, I guess tomorrow I will have to actually think of something real to write about. Wish me luck.

Month of Mustache, Finished

See that weird thing next to my chin? A mosquito flew right in front of the camera just as I was taking a picture. Weird, isn't it? I have no idea how he got into my apartment anyway, and what he is doing alive, at that. It is the middle of October, isn't it time for the mosquitoes to give it up for the winter? I managed to make it an entire year without having any mosquitoes in my apartment until about a week ago, when I woke up with bites all over my feet. GAH! I hate them so much!

One Day Left

2 days left, Tuttle, 2 days left. Don't fret, though readers (all two of you), I'm not going to shave it any time soon. I just don't need to bother you with updating the photos daily. Maybe I will have an occasional update as required, but after day 31, I will move on to other things. To be honest, growing a mustache is hard work. Not only was it really itchy, but at certain points it caused physical pain in my face. All that seems to be gone now, though, and everything is working out great. The stache looks luxurious, and it feels great as well. I am thinking of buying a Hawaiian shirt and a Detroit Tigers hat so that I can be Tom Selleck for Halloween. Not sure what to do about the chest hair, though. Maybe I can get a merkin of sorts for it. I'll have to look that up, but Im not looking forward to what I will find in the search results.

16/10/09: Day 28 - 4 Weeks!

Well, the Month of the Mustache is nearly over. Apparently I never labeled it as such, so some idiots (aka Tuttle), are wondering when I will stop posting pictures of the most handsome face outside of show business. So yeah, there are three days left that you can witness the glorious beauty that I call a face. In fact, here is day 28:

3 Left

Incidentally, it is a wonder that I could go through a month of my life with such a bad haircut. Even worse is the fact that Jisun never mentioned it to me. What a traitor! In other strange Andy news, notice how my thumb can't bend back any further than that. Weird? It isn't to me.

I went and saw District 9 tonight. It was definitely worth the price of admission, and that price was 400ml of blood. Gotta love getting stuff kind of for free. Anyway, I know it is a little behind you guys in the west, but today was opening day in Korea. Man, not only was the movie awesome, but the main actor, Sharlto Copley...sweet 'stache. I generally like every movie I see, so I can't be trusted with recommendations. However, I have what I call the 'Jisun Movie Test'. If she doesn't fall asleep, it means that the movie is fantastic. For this movie, not only didn't she fall asleep, she was on the edge of her seat. Take that as you will, but since most of you have already probably seen it, it doesn't matter anyway. What does matter is Day 27, and here it is.

Day 27

Living in Korea has caused me to hate old people. The Confucian idea that old people can do whatever they want is not only stupid and wrong, it is also a huge pain in the ass. Because of this idea, you get these old people running around, refusing to wait in lines, screaming and yelling in the streets, being drunk all day and night, and generally being a nuisance. I was sitting next to a dude on the bus today who kept spitting on the floor, right next to my feet. Talk about disgusting. Why is that ok? Actually, it isn't! While spitting on my feet, he was loudly sucking on his teeth, and alternating between screaming at his friend at the other end of the bus and screaming into his cell phone at another person. I seriously hope I die before I end up like that. Man, I hate old people. And on that note, here is the stache, which makes me too cool to ever act like that.

26 Days Down, 5 To Go

13/10/09: Day 25 - Oh yeah!

I might be 31 years old now, but man, my mustache keeps me looking young and spry. Speaking of spry, I took four days off from going to the gym because I went to Busan, and man I hurt today. Previously, I was going to the gym five times a week, and I hadn't missed a day from my routine in over a month. Now I realize that skipping days is a terrible idea, so I'm not going to do that again. At least not until this winter, when I should take a nice vacation to recharge my batteries, but we will burn that bridge when we come to it.

But I digress, we are here for the stache, not anything else. So take a look, because the countdown has begun. I last shaved my upper lip on September 19, 2009. We are nearing the month marker here, and I have to say that I am proud of what I am seeing.

Oooh yeah! Snap into it!

To run through things quickly, I went on a short vacation and didn't have the chance to update. While on the trip, I lost my USB card reader, so when I got back yesterday I couldn't get the pictures off my camera. So all of that happens, and I have four days of updates in one. Here we go:

Day 21-Unfortunately, this shot is a few hours late. I actually took it at 7am on day 22, but forgive me. My bus arrived at 1:30am the previous night, and I didn't actually know where I was going, so I was stressed a bit and forgot the 'stache pic. It wont happen again!

Day 21.5

Day 22 -The beautiful thing about a good mustache is it provides something akin to a secret identity. Take this picture for example. I bet you can't even see me!

Who's that!?

Day 23 -Back in Seoul after a long trip and tired out. But I did get the good, ruggedly handsome 'stache shot.

Michael Jordan

Day 24 - I got the working blues, but I also have a real sweet 'stache. Like a good cheese or a fine wine, this baby is aging to perfection.

Oh Yeah!

08/10/09: Day 20 - Dopey

Why do I always look so dopey in these pictures? I'll tell you why, I take them right before bed! Besides, I go to work, teach five classes, run to the gym, put in a 5km run, a 10km bike ride, and 30 minutes of squash. From there, I go to Jisun's work and fetch her, come home, cook dinner, do the dishes, and play with Jisun. Finally, I take my mustache picture. So, yes, I do look dopey. But the 'stache is looking great, anyway.

Damn, I am starting to look good.

PS: Going to Busan tomorrow, so will miss a stache update Fri-Sat. Don't worry, Ill get pictures and just upload three days in a row on Sunday.
