10/11/09: I'm So Hungary!

If you read my Facebook status updates, you probably are aware of this, but if not...then read on. Well, after I talked all kinds of trash on the Hungarian embassy workers for not returning my mail, I got an email. Unfortunately the email told me that there aren't any Hungarian restaurants in Seoul. I had already assumed that, but it was an unfortunate blow.
Since I was feeling feisty, I responded to the email asking if I could get invited to some kind of function that would serve Hungarian cuisine. Preferably a private dinner at the ambassadors house, but beggars can't be choosers, you know. So I sent the email asking if something like that would ever come up. I wasn't confident I would get a response, but I figured that nothing bad could come of it.
I almost immediately got a response to this email, but it wasn't what I expected. I was invited to a Hungarian movie weekend Nov 17-21. Yes, the movie weekend actually only has one weekend day involved, but I won't fault them for that. The cool thing is that it is free, and since I have never seen a Hungarian movie before, I am curious about it. The uncool thing is that I doubt there will be food, aside from popcorn, and I don't think that is true Hungarian food.
However, I figure that if I go to the movie night and ingratiate myself with some poor embassy worker, I can probably get invited to some function in the future that will be food related. I just have to see what comes of it. Besides, I might really like the movie. And even if I don't, it is free, so I won't be put out at all. I guess that it is positive all around, huh?
