I was going out last Saturday, but I had no cash so I decided to stop by the bank en route to the subway station. Jisun was with me, and just as I was about to open the door to the bank (or atm kiosk or whatever), she stopped me and said "I'm not going in there." Huh? A fear of banks or something cause you to say that? No, in fact it was a fear of insane homeless people.
When I turned back and looked into the bank, I saw a guy urinating in the corner. This made me do a double take, and I considered going to another bank. However, I would have had to walk at least forty five seconds out of my way to find another atm, and there were other people using the cash machines in this bank, so I figured I would risk it.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the door was the horrid odor. Do you know the smell of the monkey house in the zoo? It was like that, except stronger. Anyway, he was urinating besides the bank of cash machines to the left, so I decided to use the ones on the right. While I was getting my cash out, I kept furtively peeking over at the guy to make sure he wasn't going to stab me in the neck with a broken soju bottle.
Fortunately, he didn't do that, but he did turn around after urinating and start walking my way, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. What also made me feel uncomfortable was that he was in black face. It wasn't just because he was dirty, no, he actually took black shoe polish or something and coated his face in it. It was really creepy. On top of it all, he was walking with a weird, stumbling gait, so I looked down to see what the problem was. Of course he was only wearing one shoe. Isn't living in the city a grand experience?
